Fellowship Youth Trip To Morehead City
A group of
Fellowship youth, friends and advisors left Greensboro on
Friday, May 20 to begin an exciting Mission Trip. We
participated in First Presbyterian Church's (of Morehead
City) MORE program, a program administered by Suzy Edwards,
wife of Rev. Bart Edwards, Associate Pastor of the host
church.
On Sat. we went to a local domestic violence shelter and did
yard work (pulling weeds, planting flowers, putting down
mulch) in their back yard, cleaned windows, and painted both
the front and back porch for them.
After lunch we went to the beach between Atlantic Beach and
Fort Macon, walking and and picking up trash.
Basically, we just took it easy after a very busy morning.
Later in the afternoon, the group went back to the church
and worked on assembling wheel chair accessible flower
planters to be installed at a local nursing home.
Our group also did something really special for the host
congregation and session.
Last Tues. evening during their session meeting 1 of their
long time members and newly elected elder had a heart attack
during the meeting and died, leading Suzy to have a devotion
with us that discussed the idea of light (as in what kind of
light is in your life).
During her devotional, she spoke of once finding a sea shell
on the beach with a Bible verse in it and how it made a
difference. She encouraged us while on the beach to do the
same.
The host church presented us with a gift -- a hand crafted
cross with a candle in the center to help us remember that
Christ should always be the light in the center of our
hearts. |
